Weight Loss Surgery Cuts Heart Risk

The main cause of cardiovascular disease is increase of fat in the body. When that fat or cholesterol is increased, it mixes with the blood and causes problems in flow of the blood to the heart and from the heart. This is the point from where the cardiovascular diseases and risks arise. Weight loss surgeries are carried out to take out the excess fat from the body. Weight loss surgeries like stomach stapling or lap band surgery or gastric banding will reduce the signs of cardiovascular diseases. Weight loss surgeries help to reduce the risks associated with heart which drug treatment cannot do. This is a lifesaving surgery according to the research done and according to the previous studies. According to the research done on 20000 patients on weight loss treatment, the risk involved with heart attack, heart stroke and heart failure were high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. The high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes can be reduced by weight a loss surgery which in turn reduces the risk towards heart.

According to the world health organization research, about 2.8 million people die due to overweight. The bariatric surgery is taken by these people who are more than 100 pounds overweight over the ideal body weight and who have greater risk of death. For people with high risk of cardiovascular disease, the weight loss surgery would be a lifesaving surgery.

Weight loss surgery has many risks associated with it like bleeding, infection etc. almost the gastric band has to be removed for most of the patients because of bleeding and infection. As there is lot of risk involved with bariatric surgery other weight loss options should be explored first before resorting to bariatric surgery. The weight loss surgery should be chosen only by the people who cannot treat their weight in any other way. Severely overweight people can be benefited from weight loss surgeries.

Healthy Child Birth after Weight Loss Surgery

A research at Laval University found that babies born to women after weight loss surgery have few cardiovascular risks when compared with their siblings born before the weight loss surgery. This happens due to the metabolic changes and also the weight loss surgery has good impact on the inflammatory diseases.  Weight loss surgery for a mother affects the genes of the child and leads to several diseases and risks. Researches on bariatric surgery by Laval University revealed that children born to mothers who undergo bilio pancreatic operation will have less chances of obesity and they will also have good insulin resistance and the child will have lower risk of cardiovascular disease and the blood pressure will be normal.

The research was carried out by taking the blood samples of 25 children who were born to mothers before the bilio pancreatic surgery and the blood samples from other 25 children who were born to mothers after the bilio pancreatic surgery. The body mass index of the mothers was 45 before the surgery and BMI was 27 after the surgery on an average. The DNA was tested by a special tool from the blood samples taken from the mothers and their children in order to find out the changes caused in genes by the process called methylation. When tested, it was found that the methylation levels were unlike in both the children, the children who were born to mothers after the surgery and the children born to the mothers before the surgery. Research revealed that 5500 genes were different in the children who were born before and after the surgery to the mothers. There will be very high impact on the children born to the mother after the surgery and there will be great effect on the metabolic rates and methylation levels.

Basically the research tells that maternal obesity will affect the obesity of the child and also increases the cardiovascular risk.

Weight Loss Surgery Doesn’t Raise the Fracture Risk

According to new study, obese people who have undergone the weight-loss surgery, like gastric band or gastric bypass, are not in the risk of broken bones in first few years after having the surgery. But 3 to 5 years after this surgery, these patients may have an increased risk of fractures.

Surgical treatment is a very effective method to lose excess weight for many obese people. However, for few years after the surgery these outcomes are reassuring for the patients; but influence on the skeletal health cannot be excluded for lifetime.

From previous studies, the weight loss surgery alone has been shown to diminish the bone density of patient, as the surgery is linked to the loss of bone density.

From new studies, researches compared the broken bones rate among people who had weight loss operation with similar age groups of same sex, body mass index and age who didn’t have surgery; here body mass index is the fat measurement of the body based on weight and height.

From these new studies, broken bones risk is not much higher even after 3 years of their surgery for people who had the weight loss surgery previously. This risk is inched upwards from 3 to 5 years after having the surgery, and people who have more significant loss in their BMI had higher risk for the fractures, that the researchers noted.

Obesity is the increasing health problem, which affects so many people worldwide. It has been recognized that the surgery is the effective method to weight loss for so many individuals with morbid obesity. For first few years after having surgery, these outcomes are reassuring for the patients; however do not completely exclude negative effect on the skeletal health. But the researchers concluded that, at least in the short term changes in the bone density are not leading to the fracture risk.

For morbid obese people, undergoing weight loss surgery can bring a new turn in their life towards healthy lifestyle habits. But before considering any kind of surgery, make sure to consult an experienced weight loss or bariatric surgeon.

Weight Loss And Menopause

Research has suggested that weight loss could help in banishing the symptoms of menopause. Women who are at menopause stage, losing weight by eating low-fat food rich in vegetables and fruits could eliminate or reduce their night sweats and hot flashes. The researches encourage doctors to suggest menopausal patients about weight loss before recommending the hormone replacement treatment.

Most of the women are unwilling to undergo hormonal therapy treatment as they afraid that the treatment can increase the risk of heart disease and breast cancer.

From recent studies it has been proved that losing weight can reduce certain hormones levels, which trigger symptoms. Women who are obese tend to produce higher levels of estrogen hormone that may aggravate night sweats and hot flashes. And having excess fat also prevents the body from cooling down followed by the flash.

Women who will lose weight with this healthier diet- increasing fruits, vegetables, whole grains and decreasing fat were specifically more likely to eliminate or reduce symptoms.

As most of the women can gain with as their age increase, weight gain prevention or weight loss may provide a visible strategy in order to help in eliminating night sweats and hot flashes that are associated with the menopause stage. Greater body weight provides insulation, which may hinder hot flashes, night sweats and heat loss offer a way to reduce the heat.

Women with the menopausal problems who were on the low fat foods rich in fruits, vegetable and whole grains, who were not undergoing hormone replacement treatment and who lost minimum 10 pounds of body weight in a year are more likely to observe hot flashes and night sweats disappear or reduced after a year than women who were maintained their healthy weight. Especially weight loss is loss of the excess fat but not the lean mass, which help in alleviating the night sweats and hot flashes.

When you have tried all those methods and didn’t notice any change in your weight, it is better to consider weight loss surgery. But before going to make any decision be sure to consult an experienced weight loss surgeon

Weight loss surgery includes methods like gastric bypass surgery, which comes with considerable risks of its own and also it is the only suggested for some extremely obese patients.

Still, the researches recommended the procedure giving so many cardiac benefits to the obese patients. Weight loss surgery is also termed as the bariatric surgery, which aims to help the severely obese patients to lose their excess weight by reducing the food intake, which can be handled by their digestive system.

A Swedish study suggested that this method reduces the risk factors of death due to heart attack. Patients who had this procedure were less likely to develop cardiovascular issues or suffer from the first time stroke or heart attack.

People who are at increased levels of C-reactive protein are at higher risk of getting heart stroke and attack. The research is essential because it can track the actual effects of the weight loss surgery over many years. These procedures can help patients by reducing the risk factors though weight loss and also accompanying the change in body’s metabolism and then associated working of heart.

While it can be helpful for people in losing excess weight very quickly that is extremely important for people who are at greater risk, like those with uncontrollable diabetes and heart disease.
